Edward Albert Schaefer, 84, of Scott City died Wednesday, March 11, 2020, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Oct. 29, 1935, in Chaffee, Missouri, to Anton and Anna Glastetter Schaefer. He married Georgia Lea Glaus on Sept. 17, 1955.

He worked for Procter & Gamble. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and was a founding member of Knights of Columbus Council 6420, where he had been a grand knight. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy Seabees.

Edward is survived by his wife, Georgia Schaefer; son, Timothy (Kelly) Schaefer of Scott City; daughters, Rhonda (Michael) Braun and Brenda (John) Fisher of Scott City and Tracy (Matt) Meyer of Valrico, Florida; brothers, Tony Schaefer of Columbia, Missouri, and Gary Schaefer of Ironton, Missouri; sisters, Laverne Owens of Scott City and Georgia Leible of Kelso, Missouri; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter and two brothers.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Scott City.

Memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m. at the church, with the Rev. Michael Casteel as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Scott City.
