HERMAN NEWMAN

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Herman Newman, 88, of Sikeston died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001, at Missouri Delta Medical Center.

He was born Aug. 27, 1912, at Canalou, Mo., son of Lee Roy and Katie Jane Peterson Newman. He and Clara Chapman were married April 2, 1933.

Newman was a retired farmer. He founded the Senior All Star Band in 1975 and entertained patients in nursing homes until his death. He was a member of Lamar Ridge Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Rob Newman of Sikeston; two daughters, Charlotte Northcutt and Sandra Bloemer of Sikeston; a brother, the Rev. Herschal Newman of Sikeston; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, three brothers and two sisters.

Friends may call at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston from 5-8 p.m. today.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. The Rev. James Trotter will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
