SIKESTON, Mo. -- William Layton Hubbard, 82, of Sikeston died Friday, March 2, 2001, at Missouri Delta Medical Center.

He was born May 3, 1918, at Casa, Ark., son of Francis Marion and Samantha Whitfield Hubbard. He and Hazel Mae Robinson were married Feb. 5, 1938, at Casa.

Hubbard was a farmer and a longtime member of Shady Acres Church of Christ. He moved to Matthews, Mo., in 1940. Two years later he moved to a farm just north of Sikeston. Hubbard was active in the Scott County Extension Council. In 1979 he was honored by the University of Missouri and the Eastern Production Credit Associations as part of the farm management recognition program, which honored farmers in Missouri for outstanding business progress. He farmed until his retirement in 1983.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Elbert Hubbard of Sikeston and Jim Hubbard of St. Louis; a sister, Lona Moore of Casa; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

Friends may call at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston from 5-8 p.m. today.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the chapel. Johnny Hester and Pat Hogan will officiate, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery.
