CHARLESTON, Mo. -- Charlie Frank Carthell, 62, of St. Louis died Tuesday, July 3, 2001, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Dec. 23, 1938, in Trenton, Tenn., son of Thomas and Samella Carthell. He and Bernice Bostic were married Nov. 10, 1969.

Carthell was a retired truck driver and a former deputy with Mississippi County Sheriff's Department. He moved to Missouri in 1947, and had lived in St. Louis since 1980.

Survivors include two sons, Britt Thomas of Cape Girardeau, Larry Bostic of St. Louis; two daughters, Deborah Thomas and Kimberly Simmons of St. Louis; and 11 grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mercy Seat Baptist Church. The Rev. J.L. Posey will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Friends may call at the church from noon until time of service.

Sparks Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
