DEXTER, Mo. -- Gary V. Phillips, 55, of Dexter died Sunday, July 29, 2001, at the V.A. Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn.

He was born March 24, 1946, at Dexter, son of Clyde and Etta Johnson Phillips.

Phillips was retired from the U.S. Army, where he served 20 years.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Phillips of Columbus, Ga.; three daughters, Michelle Demski, Shannon and Rebecca Phillips, all of Columbus; five grandchildren; four sisters, Joyce Leathers of Dexter, Deanna Deering of Carrier Mills, Ill., Carolyn Iannone of Plainfield, Ill., and Junette Ray of Johnston City, Ill.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Armstead Dowdy Cemetery near Dexter. The Rev. Kevin Chenoweth will officiate. Military rites will be conducted by the Veteran's Honor Guard of Poplar Bluff, Mo.
