Ruby Erwin, 95, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2001, at her home.

She was born Feb. 2, 1906, in Thackery, Ill., daughter of William and Laura Hinkle York. She and Leland C. Erwin were married March 15, 1924, in McLeansboro, Ill. He died Sept. 30, 1971.

Mrs. Erwin had lived in Cape Girardeau 38 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church in McLeansboro, and attended First Christian Church in Cape Girardeau.

Survivors include two sons, Larry Erwin of Jackson, Mo., David Erwin of Maple Valley, Wash.; two daughters, Pat Blackwell and Winona Smith of Cape Girardeau; three sisters, Nell Denney and Lela Donelson of McLeansboro, and Mary Helen Schorr of St. Louis.

Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, Christy Lewis of Tampa, Fla., Jeff and Kevin Smith of Cape Girardeau, Brandon Erwin of Jackson, Rachele Olsen of Monroe, Wis., Shaunna Leavitt of Richmond, Va., Barton Erwin of Vancouver, Wash., Laura, Clifton, Beth and Micah Erwin, all of Maple Valley, Sally Bethea of Cincinnati, Ohio, Scott Blackwell of Nashville, Tenn., and Sam Blackwell of Cape Girardeau; 13 great-grandchildren, Aaron and Ryan Lewis of Tampa, Sierra Smith of Cape Girardeau, Casey Blackwell of Dexter, Mo., Kyle, Carly and Kim Bethea of Cincinnati, Ryan and Sydney Erwin of Vancouver, Kylee, Ashlynn and Jordan Olsen of Monroe, and Ty Leavitt of Richmond.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, a sister, six half brothers, and a grandchild, Brian Smith.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Funeral Home from 4-8 p.m. Friday.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The Rev. Philip N. Curran will officiate. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.
