Walter Arnold Hartje, 69, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Belleville, Ill., died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, at St. Louis University Medical Center.
He was born June 24, 1930, in Chester, Ill., son of Louis and Esther Herberts Hartje.
Mr. Hartje worked at International Shoe Co. 45 years. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and its Men's Club in Cape Girardeau, American Legion Post 58 in Belleville, and St. Louis ISCO Luncheon Club.
He served in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include a son, Todd A. (Patti) Hartje of Lone Jack; a daughter, Susan B. (Larry) Hall of Mascoutah, Ill.; two brothers, Louis H. (Bert) Hartje of Jackson, William R. (Ruby) Hartje of Anna, Ill.; a sister, Loretta (Nolan) Feldt of Belleville; four grandchildren, Jackson and Dawson Hartje, and Justin and Kayla Hull; several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patsy Teel Hartje; a son, Bradley Hartje; his parents; and a sister, Melba Lippert.
Friends may call at Valhalla Funeral Home in Belleville from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 3. A military service will be held at 7.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 4, at the funeral home. The Rev. Douglas Breite will officiate. Burial will be in Valhalla Gardens of Memory.
