The Rev. Jamie Samuel "Sam" Peters, 62, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, in a Port Charlotte medical center.

He was born March 18, 1937, in Oak Hill, W.Va., son of Joseph and Doris Crawford Peters. He married the former Rebecca Shaffer.

Peters was associate pastor at First Presbyterian Church in Cape Girardeau from January 1977 to December 1985. He retired as pastor at First Presbyterian Church in Port Charlotte.

He was a past president of Rotary Club in Atlanta, Ga., and Cape Girardeau. He moved to Port Charlotte in 1998 from Atlanta.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Elizabeth Adair of Atlanta, Rebecca Peters of Nashville, Tenn.; and three granddaughters.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Port Charlotte.

The National Cremation Society of Port Charlotte is in charge of arrangements.
