VERNA SMITH

PERRYVILLE -- Verna G. Coffman Smith, 93, of Perryville died Tuesday, March 21, 2000, at Perry County Nursing Home.

She was born Nov. 8, 1906, in Ste. Genevieve County, daughter of Edward Leon and Ella Kennon Roper. She first married Ralph Coffman Jr. Nov. 8, 1924, at St. Mary's. He preceded her in death. She later married Hubert Smith Dec. 4, 1949. He also preceded her in death.

Smith was a licensed practical nurse, and worked at Perry County Memorial Hospital 25 years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Perryville, member and past worthy matron of St. Mary's Chapter 338 Order of Eastern Star.

Survivors include two sons, Thomas and Eugene Coffman of St. Mary's; a daughter, Helen Brewer of St. Mary's; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four brothers and a sister.

Friends may call at Miller Family Funeral Home from 5-9 p.m. today, Thursday from 6:30 to noon, and after 1 at Minnith Baptist Church. An Eastern Star service will be held at 7 tonight.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Minnith Baptist Church, with Steve Brewer officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
