VELMA LAWRENCE

SIKESTON -- Velma I. Lawrence, 77, of Sikeston died Sunday, April 23, 2000, at Missouri Delta Medical Center.

She was born May 17, 1922, in Pawnee, Okla., daughter of Hans and Alta Dine Schroeder.

Lawrence was a graduate of Oklahoma State University in Stillwater.

She moved to Sikeston in 1960 from Macon, Mo. She was a ninth-grade English teacher at Sikeston High School from 1960-82. She was a member of First Christian Church and Missouri State Teachers Association.

Survivors include a son, Charles Lawrence Jr. of St. Louis; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

There is no visitation or service.

Nunnelee Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
