SCOTT CITY, MO. -- Edith Elizabeth Smith, 78, of Scott City died Friday, July 7, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born April 13, 1922, in Bradford, Ark., daughter of Robert A. and Edna Cullum Veach. She was raised by her stepmother, Elizabeth Bean Veach.

Smith first married Ed O'Dell, who preceded her in death. She then married Cecil Cotton, who preceded her in death. Later she married Harry Cook, who preceded her in death. She married William Smith, who also preceded her in death.

She was a member of New Life Gospel Center.

Survivors include three sons, Chester Cotton of Scott City, Ray Cotton of Rockview, David O'Dell of Bald Knob, Ark.; four daughters, Lola Bratton, Lilly Ledermann and Shirley Petitt, all of Scott City, Geraldine McCollum of Scottsburg, Ind.; 23 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, a daughter, a brother and three sisters.

Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City after 4 p.m. today. A prayer service will be held at 7.

Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Union Grove Cemetery in Pleasant Plains, Ark.
