SHAWNEETOWN, Mo. -- Elton O. Dost, 72, died Sunday, July 23, 2000, at his home in Shawneetown.

Friends may call today from 4-8 p.m. at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson, Mo.

Funeral service will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Shawneetown, with interment in the church cemetery. The Rev. Howard Mueller will officiate.

Friends may call at the church after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Mr. Dost was born Jan. 3, 1928, near Oak Ridge, Mo., son of the late Otto and Clara Rudert Dost. He and Mildred Mirly were married June 14, 1952.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred; three sons and daughters-in-law, Ken and Lisa Dost of Maumelle, Ark., Gary and Sheri Dost of Shawneetown, Neal and Kim Dost of Shawneetown; two daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Greg Nolan of Jackson, and Jean and Steve Chapman of Cape Girardeau.

Also surviving is a brother, Erwin Dost of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Helen Morrison of Oak Ridge; eight grandchildren; Amanda and Jeff Chapman, Jamie and Ashley Dost, Zach and Taylor Nolan, and Aaron and Austin Dost.

He was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.

Mr. Dost graduated from Jackson High School in 1946. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

From 1953-67 he was a partner with Marvin Richter doing business as D&R Trucking. He later went to work for ABF Trucking Co., and retired in 1989 after 22 years of service.

He was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Shawneetown, being in the Men's Club and Voters Assembly. He was also active in community affairs and took great pride in his grandchildren.
