MINER -- Roy Alford Northern, 72, of Miner died Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999, at his home.

He was born March 14, 1926, at New Madrid, son of Will and Rinnie Mannus Northern. He and Nora Mae Moss were married on Dec. 5, 1948, at New Madrid.

Northern was a sheet metal worker for 45 years and had worked for the Poage Sheet Metal Co. and Clayton Fabrication Co., both in Sikeston.

He worked with the Miner Fire Department for 28 years and served as fire chief from 1974 to 1976.

He was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Bertrand and had served as head usher for 10 years and a member and leader of the Church of Prophecy Marker Association.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Al and Tony Northern, both of Sikeston; four daughters, Vickie Manns of Dittmer, JoAnn Byars of Sikeston, Paula Shaver of Dexter and Tammie Brawley of Charleston, W.Va.; 17 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a son, a brother, two sisters and a grandchild.

Friends may call at the Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston from 5 to 8 p.m. today.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Church of God of Prophecy in Bertrand. The Rev. Jim Eskew will officiate, assisted by Rev. Danny Tackett. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in New Madrid.
