CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Irene Johnson, 87, of Carbondale died Sunday, Feb. 28, 1999, at The Abbey of Carbondale.

She was born Jan. 11, 1912, at Ware, daughter of Will and Mary Markert Boyce. She and Robert T. Johnson were married Sept. 21, 1929, in Chicago.

Johnson retired from Elgin State Hospital. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and its Ladies Guild in Anna.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Jerry Johnson of Syracuse, Ind., Mike Johnson of Fairbanks, Alaska; seven grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, two sisters, and four half sisters.

Friends may call at Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Anna from 5-7 p.m. today. The rosary will be recited at 6:30.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Church, with the Rev. Tom Miller officiating. Burial will be in Anna Cemetery.
