GENE SWEET
BERTRAND -- Gene Sweet, 64, of Bertrand died Wednesday, April 21, 1999, at his home. He was born Sept. 21, 1934, in Mississippi County, son of Hardy H. and Lela Burkeen Sweet. He and Carolyn Keene were married July 18, 1981. He had lived in Mississippi County all his life and was employed in the detailing department at Sikeston Motors. He was born Sept. 21, 1934, in Mississippi County, son of Hardy H. and Lela Burkeen Sweet. He and Carolyn Keene were married July 18, 1981.
He had lived in Mississippi County all his life and was employed in the detailing department at Sikeston Motors. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his wife; his mother of Murray, Ky.; a stepson, Bruce Duke of East Prairie; a stepdaughter, Tammy Bryars of East Prairie; two half-sisters, Jan Korstand of Aurora, Ky., and Norma Boas of Hardin, Ky.; a stepsister, Bettye Cooper of Canton, Texas; and a step-grandson, Barry Bryars of East Prairie.
He was preceded in death by one brother.
Visitation will be after 5 p.m. today at Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel, with Rev. Bill Meeks officiating. Burial will be in Dogwood Cemetery.
