Leon Schaefer

SCOTT CITY -- Leon Albert Schaefer, 85, of Scott City died Sunday, Aug. 8, 1999, at Chaffee Nursing Center.

He was born June 19, 1914, in Cape Girardeau, son of August and Mary Held Schaefer. He and Edith L. Chiles were married Sept. 4, 1948, in Clay County, Ark. She died Sept. 5, 1980.

Schaefer was employed 35 years at Suedekum Hardware in Cape Girardeau, retiring in 1985.

Formerly of Cape Girardeau, he was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include a daughter, Sheila Modglin of Scott City; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel in Cape Girardeau from 4-8 p.m. today.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel. The Rev. David Hintz will officiate. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.
