VIOLET TOWNSEND

EAST PRAIRIE -- Violet Ruth Townsend, 66, of East Prairie died Friday, Aug. 27, 1999, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Sept. 21, 1932, in Kentucky Bend, Ky., daughter of Elvis and Mary Myrtle Adams Pugh. She and John Thomas "J.T." Townsend were married Sept. 24, 1950. He died May 30, 1992.

Townsend lived in Mississippi County most of her life. She was a member of Oneness Pentecostal Church.

Survivors include two sons, Thomas Townsend of Berwyn, Ill., John Townsend of Chicago; four daughters, Katie Magers of Melrose Park, Ill., Sara Rose of Chicago, Jeanetta Taylor of Springfield, Elizabeth Townsend of East Prairie; a sister, Novella Tolbert of Ripley, Tenn.; 22 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.

Friends may call at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston from 5-8 p.m. Sunday.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery near Charleston.
