EARL FRANKLIN

OLIVE BRANCH, Ill. -- Funeral for Earl D. Franklin of Olive Branch will be held at 2 p.m. today at Trinity Assembly of God Church. The Rev. Carl Hester will officiate. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery.

Friends may call at Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo from 9-11 a.m., and at Trinity Church from 1 p.m. until service time.

Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo is in charge of arrangements.

Franklin, 65, died Thursday, July 15, 1999, at his home.

He was born Feb. 9, 1934, in Olmstead, Ky., son of Clurie and Lucille Kennedy Franklin.

Formerly of Cairo, Franklin had been a pilot and port captain for Waterfront Services in Cairo 37 years. He was a former fire commissioner in Cairo.

He was a member of Trinity Assembly of God Church and its board of directors.

Survivors include his wife, Irene; two daughters, Deborah Upshaw of East Cape Girardeau, Kathy Franklin of Olive Branch; two sons, Don Franklin of Cairo, Daniel Franklin of Olive Branch; two stepdaughters, Linda Franck of Palmsdale, Calif., Brenda Pearl of East Cape Girardeau; and a stepson, Edward Pearl of East Cape Girardeau.

Also surviving are five sisters, Mary Stiff of Tamms, Dorothy Mayberry of Cairo, Barbara Nunley of Peoria, Carolyn Smith of Hendersonville, Tenn., Linda Johnson of DeSoto; a brother, David Franklin of Ullin; 17 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and two brothers.
