Thaddeus J.R. Bullock, 82, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, May 8, 1999, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

Bullock was born May 7, 1917, at Holcomb, son of James Ruffin and Florence Preslar Bullock. He and Ruby U. Michel were married Sept. 2, 1942, at Benton.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Sunday Class. Bullock served with the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of American Legion Post 63. He had been a former area governor of Toastmasters International Club and a former Optimist Club member. Bullock ran for Congress nine times, winning the Democratic primary in 1992. He had also owned the Bullock Piano Salon in Cape Girardeau.

Bullock is survived by his wife, Ruby of Rockville, Md.; a son, Jerry R. Bullock of La Plata, Md.; three daughters, Janet Kessler of Richmond, Va., Jeanne Bullock of Las Vegas, Nev., Carol Ann Bullock of Rockville; and two grandchildren.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Gape Girardeau, with the Rev. Dr. John Owen officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Pine City Cemetery at Holcomb.
