ORAN -- William Ray Hanks, 73, of Proctor, Ark., died Sunday, May 9, 1999, at the VA Regional Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn.

Hanks was a self-employed Diesel mechanic. He was a member of First United Pentecostal Church in West Memphis, Ark., Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star in Marion, Ark., and West Memphis, Delta Shrine Club, Scottish Rite, and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include two sons, Darrell Hanks of Oran, James Hanks of Cape Girardeau; five daughters, Sharon Hanks of Houston, Texas, Sara Guzman, Duranda Cochran and Marsha Ward of Oran, Liz Hanks of Proctor; a sister, Nancy Johnson of Arnold; a brother, Arthur Hanks of Paragould, Ark.; his stepmother, Annie Hanks of Arnold; 17 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home Chapel in West Memphis. Burial will be in Crittenden Memorial Park in Marion.
