The Rev. Norval D. Smith, 64, of Valdosta, Ga., died Wednesday, May 12, 1999, at his home. He was formerly of Cape Girardeau.

He was the son of Marvie and Stella Statler Smith. He was a graduate of Central High School, St. Louis Barber College, Southeast Missouri State University, and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Smith was pastor of various Methodist churches, and was a chaplain in the U.S. Army. He retired in 1997 as head of the State of Georgia Substance Abuse Program.

Survivors include his wife, Ann; two sisters, Virginia Davis and Verna Whitticre of Cape Girardeau.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Carson-McClane Funeral Home in Valdosta. The Rev. Charles Frissell will officiate. Burial will be in a Valdosta Cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
