James H. Bucher, age 79, of Sikeston, Mo. died at this residence at 7:4-0 p.m. Tuesday, May 18, 1999. He was born March 24, 1920 in Cairo, Ill. to the late Eberhard and Rose Brown Bucher. He was educated at St. Joseph Catholic Schools in Cairo, Ill. and graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in accounting in 1942.
He served in the United States Army during World War II. He moved to Sikeston in 1946 as a certified public accountant, practicing for over 50 years. He was the senior partner in Bucher, Essner and Miles, L.L.C.He was a 50 year member of the Missouri Society of C.P.A.s. He served for 20 years on the Board of Directors of Missouri Delta Medical Center, and for 15 years on the Sikeston Housing Authority Board. He was a former part-owner of KSIM Radio Station in Sikeston, and was a former member and past-president of the Sikeston Optimist Club.
He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, and a member of Council #3151 of the Knights of Columbus in Sikeston, Mo.
He was married to Mary Francis Zimmer on June 21, 1943 in Cape Girardeau, Mo. She survives of the home in Sikeston. He is also survived by a son and his wife; James G. and Cathy Bucher of Sikeston; by three daughters: Melinda and her husband Mike Shannon of Houston, Tx.; Marybeth and her husband Dave Woodward of Atlanta, Ga.; and Martha Greer of Mobile, Ala. He is also survived by ten grandchildren: Aimee Minton of Atlanta, Ga.; Michael Shannon of Houston, Tx; Molly Williams of Atlanta, Ga.; Emily Pillsbury of Minneapolis, Ma..; Scott Woodward of Atlanta, Ga.; Ellen Greer of Birmingham, Ala.; Jenny Greer and Anna Greer, both of Mobile, Ala.; Madeline Bucher and Ross Bucher, both of Sikeston, Mo.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, May 20, 1999 at the Nunnelee Funeral Chapel. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Francis Xavier Church with Father Robert Schumacher officiating, assisted by Monsignor William Stanton. Burial will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston.
