CHARLESTON -- Funeral for Betty Jean Simmons of Charleston will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston. The Rev. Bill Summers will officiate. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 p.m. today.
Simmons, 68, died Tuesday, May 18, 1999, at her home.
She was born Jan. 16, 1931, at Charleston, daughter of Forest S. and Gladys Treacy Harwell Council. She and Laymon T. Simmons were married Feb. 28, 1947.
Simmons lived in Anderson, Ind., 28 years and in Russellville, Ark., four years, returning to Charleston in 1983. She worked at Charleston Nutrition Center, retiring in 1993.
She was a member of Southside Baptist Church and Ladies Auxiliary to VFW Post 4294.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Ronald Simmons of Ringgold, Ga., Richard "Rick" Simmons of Winter Haven, Fla.; two daughters, Pamela McClellan of Anderson, Lisa Smothers of Jackson; a sister, Helen Herwig of Charleston; eight grandsons; and a great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by three brothers.
