GILBERT BATES

Funeral for Gilbert Lynn Bates of Alton was held last Sunday at Carter Funeral Chapel in Thayer. Bill Bales officiated. Burial was in Hickory Grove Cemetery at Alton.

Bates, 51, died Thursday, May 13, 1999, in Alton.

He was born July 2, 1947, in Wichita Falls, Texas, son of Lynn C. and Lucile Hardwick Bates.

Bates worked at Wal-Mart in Thayer. He was formerly of this area, and was a member of VFW Post 3838 in Cape Girardeau.

He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War.

Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Lucile and Buryl Wright; two stepbrothers, Wayne and Bobby Wright, all of Alton.

He was preceded in death by his father and a stepsister.
