Floyd Eugene "Gene" York, 56, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 1999, at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis.

He was born Dec. 7, 1942, in Cape Girardeau, son of Floyd and Mary Elizabeth Wright York. He and Karen Sitze were married Dec. 24, 1963, in Cape Girardeau.

York was a 1961 graduate of Central High School. He owned and operated Dixie Cream Donuts about 12 years. He was a member of the Eagles Aerie in Bonne Terre.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Survivors include a daughter, Debbie Brenam of Bonne Terre; his mother of Cape Girardeau; a brother, James York of Cherokee Village, Ark.; two sisters, Pat Dietiker and Judy Niswonger of Cape Girardeau; and a grandson.

He was preceded in death by his father, a brother, and two sisters.

The body was cremated, and there will be no visitation.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the Church of Jesus Christ in Jackson. Delbert Mueller will officiate.
