ALTA SWAFFORD

LOWNDES -- Funeral for Alta Lois Swafford of Lowndes was held Monday at Ruegg Funeral Home in Greenville. The Rev. Tom Zych and Janet Hopkins officiated. Burial was in Cross Roads Cemetery.

Swafford, 94, died Thursday, Nov. 11, 1999, at Lucy Lee Hospital in Poplar Bluff.

She was born Aug. 19,1905, at St. James. She and Herman Swafford were married in May 1925. He died March 22, 1965.

Swafford had worked on the assembly line at Wagner Electric. She was a member of Lowndes Methodist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Herman Swafford Jr. of Lowndes, Stokley Swafford of St. Louis; a brother, Emory Copeland of Webster Groves; five sisters, Naomi Mullins of Patterson, Edna Stephens of Florissant, Mattie Griffin and Edith Luther of St. Louis, LaVera Richman of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
