JAMES UPTON

EAST PRAIRIE -- James Mark "Jim" Upton, 69, of East Prairie died Saturday, July 25, 1998, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

He was born Aug. 27, 1928, at Atoka, Tenn., son of B.D. and Edith Laurine Sullivan Upton. He and Evelyn Jones were married on Nov. 6, 1967.

Upton lived in Mississippi County all his life, where he was a farmer. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Korea. He was a member of the VFW in Charleston and the Big Book Club in East Prairie. He was of the Christian faith.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Charles R. Upton of Mustang, Okla., and Robert P. and Randy L. Johnson, both of East Prairie; a daughter, LaDonna Johnson Covelle of Winnetka, Ill.; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. today at the Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie. The Revs. Martin Lucas and Aubrey Wilson will officiate, with burial in the East Prairie Memorial Park Cemetery.
