Funeral Mass for Melvin Sylvester Moore of Jonesboro, Ark., was held Monday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Jonesboro. Burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery. Moore, 73, died Friday, Jan. 9, 1998, at St. Bernard Hospital in Jonesboro.

He was born July 10, 1924, at Fredericktown, son of William Henry and Mauda E. Jansen Moore. He and Bettye Jane Kalkbrenner were married Jan. 20, 1945.

Moore lived in Cape Girardeau and attended schools here, and later moved to Scott City and was employed by Cotton Belt Railroad. The Moores had lived in Jonesboro since 1945.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mary Folsom and Lu Ann Ollis of Jonesboro; three sons, Michael, Steven and Anthony Moore of Jonesboro; three sisters, Eula Schmidt of French Village, Mary Moore of Bonne Terre, Vidamae Hahn of Cape Girardeau; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two infant sisters.
