George D. Goodson, 77, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 1998, at Southeast Missouri Hospital. He was born Nov. 13, 1920, in Oak Ridge, son of Bern and Olga Manning Goodson. He and Jewel Watkins were married March 17, 1946, in Cape Girardeau. Goodson owned Goodson Insurance Agency 35 years, retiring in 1986. George D. Goodson, 77, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 1998, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

He was born Nov. 13, 1920, in Oak Ridge, son of Bern and Olga Manning Goodson. He and Jewel Watkins were married March 17, 1946, in Cape Girardeau.

Goodson owned Goodson Insurance Agency 35 years, retiring in 1986. He served two years as commander of VFW Post 3838, was chairman of the budget committee, and served on other committees.

He helped start the VFW Boy Scout Troop, was active on scout committees, and earned the Silver Beaver Award. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and was a former Sunday School teacher. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and received three Bronze Stars.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Kent Goodson of Madison, Tenn.; and a grandson.

He was preceded in death by a son.

Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau from 4-7 p.m. today.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with Dr. Larry Gallamore officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park.
