JACKSON -- Esther Hacker Wagner, 91, of Jackson died Friday, Feb. 13, 1998, at Jackson Manor.

She was born Aug. 29, 1906, in Marble Hill, daughter of G.L. and Mattie Hill Chandler. She attended Marble Hill schools, and was a graduate of Jackson High School and Southeast Missouri State University.

Wagner first married Ernst C. Hacker June 24, 1929. He died Feb. 10, 1932, She later married Charles Richard Wagner June 6, 1942. He died Dec. 27, 1967.

She taught school at Jackson about 40 years, mainly at the high school. She was a member of New McKendree United Methodist Church, served on its administrative board, taught Sunday School, was a member of Naomi Circle, and life member of United Methodist Women.

Wagner was a member of Jackson Public Library Board, Jackson Heritage Association, member and past worthy matron of Jackson Chapter 91 Order of Eastern Star, member and past regent of John Guild Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution, member and past president of Thursday Study Club, and had been a volunteer with Southeast Missouri Hospital Auxiliary.

Survivors include a son, Jean Hacker of Houston, Texas; a daughter, Jane Wagner of San Diego, Calif.; two sisters, Olga Hill of Jackson, Eleanor Fenner of Webster Groves; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, four brothers, and a granddaughter.

Friends may call at Cracraft-Miller Funeral Home from 4-8 p.m. today. An Eastern Star service will be held at 6:30.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at New McKendree Church, with the Rev. Scott Lohse officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery.
