CHARLESTON -- James C. Maxey, 66, of Charleston died Friday, Feb. 27, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born March 14, 1931, at Myrle, Miss., son of Edgar C. and Fannie Mae Warren Maxey.

He lived in Mississippi County most of his life. He was a member of the New Bethel Baptist Church near Charleston.

He was employed as a mechanic with the Simmons Equipment Co. until his retirement in 1987.

He was a veteran of the Army, serving in the Korean War.

He married Helen Baker on Oct. 7, 1955.

Survivors include his wife of the home; his mother of Memphis, Tenn.; a brother, Herman Maxey of Batesville, Miss.; and three sisters, Helen Maxey and Sadie Mae Robinson, both of Memphis, and Brenda Hardin of New Albany, Miss.

He was preceded in death by his father, a son and a sister.

Friends may call from 4:30 to 8 p.m. today at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston.

Funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

The Rev. Charlie Cates of Tarkio will officiate. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery near Charleston.
