MURPHYSBORO, Ill. -- Helen Elizabeth Schoenberger, 81, of Murphysboro died Thursday, March 19, 1998, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau. She was born Sept. 12, 1916, in Murphysboro, daughter of Sebastian and Frances Salfer Hauner. She and John Henry Schoenberger were married Nov. 15, 1938, in Murphysboro. He died Jan. 6, 1974...

MURPHYSBORO, Ill. -- Helen Elizabeth Schoenberger, 81, of Murphysboro died Thursday, March 19, 1998, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Sept. 12, 1916, in Murphysboro, daughter of Sebastian and Frances Salfer Hauner. She and John Henry Schoenberger were married Nov. 15, 1938, in Murphysboro. He died Jan. 6, 1974.

The Schoenbergers owned and operated J&H Wholesale. She was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church and St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary.

Survivors include a son, Dr. John Schoenberger of Cape Girardeau; three daughters, Helen Kiel and Margie O'Leary, both of Murphysboro, Cathy Barker of Eldorado; a sister, Augusta Bellm of Cahokia; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three brothers and five sisters.

Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Pettett Funeral Home in Murphysboro. A rosary will be recited at 6:30. Friends may also call until 9:45 a.m. Monday.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Gary Gummersheimer officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
