JONESBORO, Ill. -- Virgie Tweedy, 89, of Jonesboro died Thursday, March 26, 1998, at her home.

She was born Jan. 7, 1909, in Delta, daughter of John and Cynthia Dickerson Bass. She and Clarence A. Tweedy were married Sept. 26, 1925. He died Aug. 24, 1985.

Tweedy had worked at Anna State Hospital, retiring in 1974. She attended Jonesboro Methodist Church.

Survivors include three sons, Clarence Tweedy Jr. of Goreville, Richard Tweedy of Summerville, S.C., Mike Tweedy of Forrest City, Ark.; four daughters, Christine Bost of Jonesboro, Joan Bartruff of Anna, Carol Gordon of Bay Shore, N.Y., Janice Strow of Elgin; a brother, John Bass Jr. of Clearwater, Fla.; a sister, Geraldine Henard of Jonesboro; 19 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and 17 stepgrandchildren.

Friends may call at Hileman and Parr Funeral Home in Jonesboro from 5-9 p.m. today. Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Marion Mosley officiating. Entombment will be in Jonesboro Cemetery.
