TAMMS, Ill. -- Melba Gunning, 93, of Tamms died Friday, March 27, 1998, at Union County Hospital in Anna.

She was born March 20, 1905, at Mill Creek, daughter of Charlie and Laura Bridges Sims. She married Michael Walter "Tootles" Gunning on July 25, 1923. He died Feb. 23, 1975.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Tamms.

She is survived by two sons, M.W. Gunning Jr. and Joe Gunning, both of Tamms; seven half sisters, Elizabeth Sharp of Portland, Ore., Marlen Villines of Guam, Norma Desper of Piper City, Ill., Wanda Foster of Woodruff, S.C., Mary Kay of Newburgh, Ind., and Joan Wilder and Margaret Mallery, both of Memphis; a half brother, Bobby Joe Sims of Russelville, Ala.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sons.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today and Monday morning until the service at the Crain Funeral Home in Tamms.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Kenneth Johnson officiating. Burial will be in McCrite Cemetery.
