LOWNDES -- Lewis Rogers, 77, of Lowndes died Wednesday, May 20, 1998, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born May 16, 1921, in Saginaw, Mich., son of Lewis James and Doris Beach Rogers. He and Ellare Hollingsworth were married Nov. 15, 1941, at Gladwin, Mich.

Rogers was a general contractor and owner of Rogers Construction Co. at Dexter. He was also pastor of Community Church of Christ at Lowndes.

He was a member of Dexter Lions Club, and was a past governor of District 26. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, James Rogers of Mt. Dora, Fla., Robert Rogers of Dudley, Jonah Rogers of Dexter; and a daughter, Jean Martin of Cape Girardeau.

Also surviving are four brothers, Russell McLean of Midland, Mich., Sherman and Arthur Rogers of Lowndes, Jack Rogers of Zalma; four sisters, Dorothy Billingsley and Lottie Meese of Lowndes, Annabell Schearer of Midland, Darlene Ross of Dexter; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

Friends may call at Rainey Funeral Home in Dexter from 5-8 p.m. today.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Community Church of Christ, with Jack and Dale Rogers officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
