MORLEY -- The Rev. Vernon H. Guttenfelder, 78, of Morley died Tuesday, April 7, 1998, at Clearview Nursing Center in Sikeston.

He was born Oct. 16, 1919, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, son of John C. and Stella Sorensen Guttenfelder. He and Martha L. Goerz were married June 16, 1940, in Anderson, Ind.

Guttenfelder attended Anderson University in Anderson, and was ordained a Church of God minister in 1941.

He pastored churches in Washington, Kentucky, Colorado, and was pastor of Tanner Street Church of God in Sikeston 24 years. He also pastored nearly four years at Morley Church of God.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Glen Guttenfelder of Joplin; two daughters, Marcia Baker of Joplin, Karla Nelson of Denver, Colo.; and nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister.

Friends may call at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston from 5-8 p.m. today.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Tanner Street Church, with the Revs. Carl Addison and Mike Worrell officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery at Sikeston.
