JACKSON -- Charles A. "Chuck" Bunting, 68, of Greenville, Ill., died Thursday, April 9, 1998, at his home.

He was born March 1, 1930, in Olney, Ill., son of Clyde and Leona Hunter Bunting. He and Margaret P. McNeely were married March 13, 1951, in Cape Girardeau.

Bunting moved to Jackson at age 8. He was a graduate of Jackson High School, where he was captain of football and basketball teams.

He managed a Singer Sewing Machine Store and later became district manager. He operated a store in Brighton, Ill., then moved to Greenville where he was owner/operator of Shoppers Center from 1966-82.

He operated Bunting's Marina from 1970-96, and for the past 12 years he was manager and FBO at Greenville Airport. He was a pilot and balloonist, received flight instructor's award in 1989, and received Airport of the Year award in 1990.

Bunting attended First Presbyterian Church, was a member of VFW Post 1308 of Alton-Greenville, Pilots Association, OKAW Valley Amateur Radio Club, charter member of KVS Club, and worked with the Civil Air Patrol at flight encampments.

He was a veteran of the Korean War and flew 57 combat missions.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Michael Bunting of Wylie, Texas, John Bunting of Springfield, Ill.; a daughter, Christine White of Greenville; a sister, Norma Foster of St. Louis; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother.

Friends may call at Donnell-Wiegan Funeral Home in Greenville after 3 p.m. Sunday.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Kenneth Bryant and Darryl Bolen officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Auburn Cemetery.
