EAST PRAIRIE -- Mildred Evelyn Keene, 77, of New Madrid died Sunday, April 12, 1998, in an automobile accident on Interstate 55 near Matthews. She was born June 20, 1920, in Fulton County, Ky., daughter of Jeff Melton and Mandy Ethel Love Darnall. She and Andrew S. Keene Sr. were married Nov. 15, 1939. He died March 13, 1978...

EAST PRAIRIE -- Mildred Evelyn Keene, 77, of New Madrid died Sunday, April 12, 1998, in an automobile accident on Interstate 55 near Matthews.

She was born June 20, 1920, in Fulton County, Ky., daughter of Jeff Melton and Mandy Ethel Love Darnall. She and Andrew S. Keene Sr. were married Nov. 15, 1939. He died March 13, 1978.

Formerly of East Prairie, she was a member of New Madrid Baptist Church.

Survivors include three sons, Wes Keene of Sikeston, Connie Keene of Clinton, Ky., DeWayne Keene of West Frankfort, Ill.; three daughters, Judy Conyers of Wickliffe, Ky., Shelby Dodd of Hiram, Tina Hartlein of Sikeston; a sister, Mabel Whitehead of Bowling Green, Ky.; 21 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, three grandchildren, and two brothers.

Friends may call at Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie after 6 p.m. today.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at New Madrid Baptist Church, with Tom Bray and Dean Wallace officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery at New Madrid.
