LUBBOCK, TEXAS -- William Arthur Mills of Lubbock, Texas, died Thursday, Sept. 10, 1998, at St. Mary's of the Plains Hospital. He was 86.

He was born June 1, 1912, in Commerce, son of Arthur and Lillie Mae Haman Mills. He married Dollie Mae Pickett in Commerce in 1935. She died April 26, 1996.

For four years, he served as chief of police for Cape Girardeau. In all, he worked seven years with the Cape Girardeau police.

He also worked many years in maintenance at the Southeast Missouri State University's power plant.

He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Cape Girardeau.

He is survived by a son, William L. Mills of Lubbock, six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son and brother.

Funeral was Sunday afternoon. The Rev. William Dickey officiated, with burial at Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
