CAIRO, Ill. -- Herman E. Hirsch, 90, of Cairo died Sunday, Sept. 13, 1998, at Lake Point Medical Center in Rowlett, Texas. He was born July 31, 1908, son of Louis and Bertha Wendling Hirsch. CAIRO, Ill. -- Herman E. Hirsch, 90, of Cairo died Sunday, Sept. 13, 1998, at Lake Point Medical Center in Rowlett, Texas.

He was born July 31, 1908, son of Louis and Bertha Wendling Hirsch. He was married to Georgia Hirsch.

He was the owner of Hirsch Printing and Stationery Co. in Cairo before his retirement.

He was a member of First Southern Baptist Church where he served as deacon, chairman of the board of deacons and superintendent of Sunday Schools. He served for 10 years as secretary of the Clear Creek Baptist Association.

Hirsch served eight years on the Cairo City Council and served on the Illinois Housing Authority board of directors.

He was a columnist for the Cairo Evening Citizen for 10 years.

He was a past president and secretary of the Cairo Rotary Club and was active with the Rotary Club's Youth Baseball program. He was named a Paul Harris Fellow to Rotary International.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Charles L. Hirsch of Garland, Texas; three brothers, Edward Hirsch of California, Clifford Hirsch of Du Quoin and Louie Hirsch of Detroit, Mich.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the First Southern Baptist Church in Cairo from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Church. The Rev. Verlee Eaker will officiate with burial at the IOOF Cemetery in Du Quoin.

Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo is in charge of arrangements.
