THOMAS WOMACK

Thomas Craig Womack, a Cape Girardeau businessman and lifetime resident, died Tuesday, September 15, 1998, while in compassionate care at St. Francis Medical Center, after a long battle with cancer. He was 62.

He was born July 7, 1936, at Cape Girardeau, son of Floyd C. and Ruth Craig Womack. He and Jane Brennecke were married May 28, 1960 at St. Vincent's Catholic Church in Cape Girardeau.

The family owned and operated Womack Drug Store on Sprigg Street until 1976.

He worked for Missouri State Disability. He was also a realtor with Ashland Century 21. An avid sportsman, Tom was a bow hunter, a Cape Country Club Tuesday mens league golfer, a booster of two alma maters, Cape Central and Southeast Missouri State University, and also the University of Missouri. He also coached youth league baseball and football teams.

He was a member of the Country Club Western Dancers.

As a member of the Order of the Arrow, he was a Boy Scouts of America troop leader for many years.

Mr. Womack was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Vincent's Catholic Church, the Lions Club and the National Missouri and Cape Girardeau Realtors Associations and was a Century 21 Masters Club member.

He was also a member of the Naval Reserve Unit in Cape. Mr. Womack is survived by his wife, Jane; a son and his family, Bard and Jennifer Womack and their son, Cambron, all of Cape Girardeau. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and many who loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Ruth Womack.

Pallbearers will be nephews, Jeff Brennecke, Rex Rentrop, Bobby Leatherman and John Harrison; brother-in-law, Robert Firebaugh; and friends, Tim Bockhorst, Jerry Erlbacher and Walter Ford. Honorary pallbearers will be friends Gene McCalister, Herb Annis, Byron Kinder; and brother-in-law, W. A. Rentrop.

Visitation will be from 4:00 until 8:00 pm Thursday, Sept. 17, at Ford & Sons Funeral Home, Mt. Auburn Road. A Catholic mass will be held at 10:00 am Friday, Sept. 18, 1998, at St. Vincent's Catholic Church. Internment will be at the St. Mary's Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
