MOUNDS, Ill. -- Charles D. "Charlie" Pirtle, 70, of Mounds died Thursday, Sept. 17, 1998, at his home.

He was born Dec. 20, 1927, at Bernie, Mo., son of Clarence and Alma Charles Pirtle.

Pirtle was a member of Mounds VFW Post 8891. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth; two sons, Gary Pirtle of Metropolis, Jerry Pirtle of St. Charles, Mo.; a sister, Joyce Walker of Nashville, Tenn.; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother.

Friends may call at Barkett Funeral Home in Mounds from 6-9 p.m. today.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Beechwood Cemetery.
