Vernon Wesley Nye, 87, of Anderson, Ind., died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 1998, at St. John's Health Care in Anderson.

He was born Aug. 13, 1911, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, son of Frank Edward and Emma Jane Kennedy Nye. He and Ocy Irene Miller were married March 20, 1933. She died April 25, 1994.

Nye was a hydraulics assembler with Allis Chambers from 1943-54. He then spent 30 years in pastoral ministry in Cairo, Ill., Oaklawn, Willow Springs, and retired from First Church of God in Summersville in 1984.

He had lived in Anderson nearly five years, and attended Park Place Church of God.

Survivors include a son, Dale Nye of Anderson; two daughters, Darlene Jeffries of Cairo, Lois Roberts of Cape Girardeau; two brothers, James Nye of Sun City West, Ariz., Kenneth Nye of Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers and five sisters.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids, with Dr. T. Franklin Miller and the Rev. Dale L. Nye officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to service time.
