SIKESTON -- Marguerite "Margie" L. Gates of Sikeston, formerly of Carlyle, Ill., died Friday, Sept. 25, 1998, at her home. She was 74 years old.
She was born Oct. 22, 1923, in Thorn Grove, Ark., daughter of the late Wayne and Emma Pugsley Tucker. On June 9, 1949, she married Edward Gates in Peach Orchard, Ark. He survives.
She was a housewife and homemaker. She was a member of the North Acres General Baptist Church where she had served as Sunday School secretary, been a member of the Women's Missionary Society and the Prayer Warriors group.
Survivors include two sons, Edward Gates of Benton and Kevin Gates of Carlyle; three daughters, Nellene Adkins of Memphis, Tenn., Patricia Comstock of Sikeston and M. Carlette Von Burg of Carlyle; a brother, E.W. Aaron Tucker of South Carolina; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston. Funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday at North Acres General Baptists Church, with the Rev. James Trotter officiating. Burial will follow at Pirtle Cemetery in Peach Orchard.
