BLOOMFIELD -- Freeman Luke Carter Sr., 59, of Bloomfield died Thursday, Oct. 1, 1998, at Barnes Jewish North Hospital in St. Louis.

He was born Aug. 24, 1939, at Ellsinore, son of Lloyd and Edith Cates Carter. He and Yvonne Wilcox were married June 26, 1959, at Bernie.

Carter was a retired construction contractor and also retired as minister of New Prospect Southern Baptist Church in rural Malden.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, Freeman Carter Jr. of Dexter, David and Robert Carter of St. Louis, Rodney Carter of Bloomfield; a daughter, Annette Davis of Bloomfield; and his parents of Bernie.

Also surviving are two brothers, Ivan Carter of Bonne Terre, Sherman Carter of Bernie; four sisters, Cleta Dockins of Kennett, Verna Roberts of Malden, Leatha McElvoy of Springfield, Brenda Collins of state of Florida; eight grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a stepgrandchild.

Friends may call at Rainey Funeral Home in Bernie from 5:30-8 p.m. Sunday.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Delbert Bishop officiating. Burial will be in Bernie Cemetery.
