JONESBORO, Ill. -- Charles D. Smiddy, 84, died Sunday, Oct. 4, 1998, at City Care Center in Anna. He was born Dec. 30, 1913, in Jonesboro, son of William and Nora Miller Smiddy. He and Dorothy Hawkins were married in 1956 in Granite City. Smiddy was a machinist, retiring in 1975. JONESBORO, Ill. -- Charles D. Smiddy, 84, died Sunday, Oct. 4, 1998, at City Care Center in Anna.

He was born Dec. 30, 1913, in Jonesboro, son of William and Nora Miller Smiddy. He and Dorothy Hawkins were married in 1956 in Granite City.

Smiddy was a machinist, retiring in 1975. He was a member of Machinist Union of District 9, Metro East Auto Lodge 313, and First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Mike Smiddy of Reynoldsville, Phil Smiddy of St. Louis; a daughter, Anita Bonser of Houston, Texas; four sisters, Beulah Frick and Theresa Cavaness of Jonesboro, Maggie Brown of Anna, Lilly Ralls of Maud, Texas; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by five brothers.

Friends may call at Hileman and Parr Funeral Home in Jonesboro from 5-8 p.m. today.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Joe Aldridge officiating. Burial will be in Jonesboro Cemetery.
