CHARLESTON -- Kasel Williams Sr., 73, of Charleston died Tuesday, Oct. 6, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Jan. 2, 1925, at Charleston, son of Willie Ben and Audrey Pettigrew Williams. He and Dorothy Gray were married Aug. 19, 1948.

Williams was a 1942 graduate of Lincoln High School in Charleston, and attended Lincoln University in Jefferson City.

He was a government employee at O'Hare Field in Chicago, retiring in 1986. He was a member of Perry Chapel AME Church, Charleston Branch NAACP, Ten Tall Ones Civic Club, Lincoln Grand Lodge 67 AF&AM in Markham, Ill., and former member of Charleston City Council.

Williams served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Kasel Williams Jr. of Chicago; two sisters, Effie Davis and Margaret Hudson of Chicago.

Funeral will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at Sparks Funeral Home, with the Rev. Isaac Kindred Jr. officiating. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Oak Grove Cemetery in Charleston.

Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 6 p.m. until service time.
