PERKINS -- Freda J. Hicks, 83, of Perkins died Saturday, Oct. 10, 1998, at her home. She was born March 17, 1915, at Perkins, daughter of Joseph Pinkney and Dodie Ruthetta London Kennedy. She was a shoe dresser for the Florsheim Shoe Co. in Chaffee, retiring June 10, 1977...

PERKINS -- Freda J. Hicks, 83, of Perkins died Saturday, Oct. 10, 1998, at her home.

She was born March 17, 1915, at Perkins, daughter of Joseph Pinkney and Dodie Ruthetta London Kennedy.

She was a shoe dresser for the Florsheim Shoe Co. in Chaffee, retiring June 10, 1977.

She was a member of the Perkins Baptist Church and the Perkins Needle Club.

She married Thomas T. Pettit in 1932, and he preceded her in death. She then married Benjamin Cook May 14, 1954. He died Jan. 31, 1963. She married William E. Hicks Dec. 31, 1975, and he survives.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons, Joe Pettit of Scott City, and Ray and Donald Pettit, both of Perkins; three daughters, Norma Phegley of Flint, Mich., Shelba Sutherland of Swartz, Mich., and Betty Curtis of Oran; two brothers, Clifford and Lindell Kennedy, both of Niles, Mich.; three sisters, Pauline Bumgardaner and Verba Lee Shoemaker, both of Perkins, Ina Faulconer of Cape Girardeau; 22 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

A son and brother preceded her in death.

Friends may call today at 4 p.m. at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Perkins Baptist Church, with the Rev. Rick Crump officiating. Burial will be at Williams Cemetery in Perkins.
