Scully, 87, died Monday, Oct. 12, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.

She was born Feb. 5, 1911, in Lincoln, Ala., daughter of R.A.C. and Annie Whittaker Golden. She and Dr. Mark F. Scully were married June 23, 1938, in Oakland, Md.

Scully was a graduate of Garner Hospital of Nursing in Anniston, and Peabody College in Nashville, Tenn., where she was voted Miss Peabody.

She served as a public health nurse in Fairmont, W.Va., and continued her nursing career during the time her husband served in educational positions.

The Scullys moved to Cape Girardeau in 1956. Dr. Scully served as president of Southeast Missouri State University from July 1, 1956 to July 1, 1975.

She was active in the founding of Faculty Dames and served as its president almost 20 years. She was a member of P.E.O. and Quest Club, and had served as president of both.

The Pearl Scully Rose Garden was dedicated to her work in 1987. It is located on the grounds of Wildwood, home of Southeast University presidents.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Robert Scully of Rockford, Ill.; a sister, Myrtle Hunt of Temple Hill, Md.; two granddaughters; and a great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by a son.
