CHARTER OAK -- Funeral for Maurice Dale Thompson of Charter Oak will be held at 2 p.m. today at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston. Burial will be in Harper Cemetery near Aid.

Thompson, 59, died Wednesday, Oct. 14, 1998, at his home.

He was born Feb. 21, 1939, in Van Buren County, Ark., son of Audie Charles and Elva Mae Trotter Thompson. He and Sharon Payne were married Feb. 11, 1991.

Thompson was a self-employed carpenter.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Ricky Thompson of Bernie; four daughters, Marcia Wallace of Cape Girardeau, Melinda Dixon of Sikeston, Tammy Chappell of Bertrand, and Farrah Medlin of Springfield.

Also surviving are two brothers, Fairell Thompson of Matthews, Jerry "Butch" Thompson of Essex; three sisters, Charlene Polk, Billie Carroll and Margaret Mays, all of Sikeston; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, two brothers, and a sister.
